Selecting a Web HostWhether a novice or a professional, selecting a web host can be a confusing task, but there is help for you -- on the web! Today "One shoe does not fit all" but there is a shoe that is right for you.First, don't worry about too many details. Don't worry about uptime, downtime or worry about things like bandwith. No host is perfect, none are bad with respect to downtime. With respect to bandwith, a beginner does not comes close to using up their allotted bandwith. So what should a novice care about? Cost and service. A new term in the field of websites is "organic." I love the term for a variety of reasons. First, it is an example of Power-to-the-People. The users grow the site, not the site owner. It is "People helping people." Such a site for a would-be website owner is: Web Hosting Jury. This site not only gives a list of the most popular web hosts, one gets to read the good and the bad that their user's have to say about the host. Although, the site is supported by advertisers, the user comments are not censured. Whether you pick an apple or an orange - Enjoy! [top]

Organic Websites -- The new thing.Although the "organic" concept is not new, it is only now becoming popular as a template for websites. It will expand and continue to expand in the future. There is no other choice. An excellent example of an organic website is Wikipedia. The owners of the site have not build the site, their users have. The world it too vast and complicated for one person to build these sites by themselves.  The summation of the small inputs from the individual users become greater than the whole; contradicting my high school algebra. Yes, there are problems. Now that Wikipedia is popular, it is beginning to run into problems. Some users are posting wrong information and some companies are posting what in effect is advertising. However, an independent study has shown the Wikipedia is as accurate, on the whole, as the Encyclopedia Britannica. . This is a real compliment to the users of Wikipedia! Wikipedia is setting procedures whereby users can correct these errors and abuses. It is a democratic voting scheme. May "People Power" thrive! [top]
